DepressionYou can lift the darkness of depression. Depression can feel like a low or grey period of feeling anxious and tearful through to a terrible crushing darkness seemingly without end. There many symptoms of depression some typically are: * The person may look and feel sad, and move and talk slowly. * Previously enjoyable things no longer give pleasure. * Low energy levels, the person may feel lethargic or tired all the time. * He or she (depression is twice as common in women) may isolate themselves away from people and activity, shutting themselves off from life. * They may be tearful and anxious. * It may be hard to make decisions. * There may be feelings of guilt, shame and failure. * Sex drive and appetite may be low, and there may be weight loss. At the other end of the scale comfort eating is common and may lead to substantial weight gain. * Sleep patterns can be disturbed. * Life seems meaningless. * The very fact of being depressed may feel like a failure, as the person thinks "my life is fine, I have all these advantages, I ought to be OK" * The person may feel empty, hopeless and despairing. * A depressed person may have suicidal thoughts. All of this is way beyond the normal ups and downs of life. Most depression is caused by life events, things that happen that seem overwhelming (often stress is linked with depression). It can also be how we habitually think about things and whether we are getting our needs met. Occasionally if it's a long term condition it can be caused by buried feelings and emotions that need to be released.
Depression is not your fault and happens to the best of us. Antidepressant drugs help, but many have side effects. There is also the danger of masking the cause of the depression which then returns when the drug regime is tapered off. Hypnosis works without drugs to help you return to your normal self quickly.
